Two thousand
pieces, zero
chaos.

A 2000-piece puzzle is a multi-week relationship — treat it like one. Start with a work area that fits the finished puzzle, keep loose pieces in separate groups, and choose a flat place for pauses. Here is a practical sorting routine and what to check before choosing a board.

★ The method

Sort first, suffer never

Use three repeatable steps: make recognizable groups, keep a map of them, and leave one clear task for the next session.

1. Sort for the next section you want to build

Turn pieces face up as you work through the pile. Set aside recognizable edges, then choose a few features from the box picture: lettering, a red roof, faces or a striped border. Put an uncertain piece in a separate group instead of forcing it into the nearest color. You can refine the groups as the image becomes familiar.

Spread out the group you are actively searching so that shapes and printed details remain visible. If that group is too crowded, split it by another useful feature, such as light versus dark areas or a particular pattern. You do not need equally sized groups or a tray for every color.

2. Give each group a label and a place

Write a short label on removable paper beside each tray or container. Keep a matching list with the puzzle box: for example, A—lettering, B—red roof, C—dark foliage, D—uncertain. These are sample labels, not a prescribed tray count. Adapt them to your picture and the containers you have.

Keep assembled islands separate from loose pieces. Note where each island belongs on the reference picture; do not press incomplete sections together just to make the workspace look tidy.

3. Pause with a restart note

Before putting the project away, photograph the layout and update any labels you changed. Write one next action, such as “finish the lettering using tray A.” Contain loose groups separately and keep the note with the box picture. At the next session, compare the photo, open that group and resume the named task.

This routine organizes the search. For the separate job of covering, lifting or moving the assembled puzzle, follow the in-progress puzzle storage checklist.

★ The gear

Boards that do the storing for you

A board can keep the work area and sorting groups together. Measure the space where it will rest, and follow its handling instructions before moving an unfinished puzzle.

Puzzle Board 2000 Pieces with 6 Drawers

The folding board offers a 104 × 78 cm usable work area and six removable sorting trays. Its folding panels support angled use or cover the work when you pause. Check both finished puzzle dimensions against the surface, and measure the board’s stored size against your space. Keep it level during movement unless its instructions explicitly permit another secured position.

Rotating Puzzle Board with Drawers 1500 Piece

The rotating and tilting 1500-piece model can turn a different edge toward you while two divided drawers provide four sorting compartments. It includes a translucent cover and a handle. Its 89 × 65 cm dimensions are external; confirm the usable area before choosing it for your puzzle. Rotation and tilt change the working position, but do not establish that upright storage is supported.

FAQ

How do you actually sort a 2000-piece puzzle?

Start with recognizable groups: edge pieces, dominant colors, text, faces or a distinctive pattern. Put each group in its own tray, drawer or lidded container and add a simple label. Split a group again when it becomes difficult to search, and keep the box illustration nearby. The folding 2000-piece board has six removable sorting trays; they do not need to hold equal numbers of pieces.

How do you store a half-finished puzzle without losing pieces?

Photograph the layout, put loose pieces in separate containers, and protect the assembled area with the cover intended for the board. Store the platform flat in a dry place with enough clearance. When moving it, support both ends and keep it level. Do not stand it against a wall or carry it at an angle unless the manufacturer explicitly supports that use and you follow its securing instructions. Felt alone does not lock pieces in place. See the full in-progress storage checklist.

What size board do I need for 2000 pieces?

Use the finished width and height printed on the puzzle box. The folding 2000-piece board has a 104 × 78 cm usable work area; compare both dimensions and consider either orientation. Piece count alone is not a fit guarantee. The rotating 1500-piece model’s outside dimensions are not its usable surface. Our size guide explains the distinction.
