A Bookend With a Character Doing the Work

The trick is simple. A black L-shaped steel base slides under the books and does the actual holding. A separate character figure then snaps onto the front cover by magnet — so from across the room, it looks like the figure is propping up the whole row. Three characters to pick from: a wizard graduate in robes with a wand and gold trim, a meditating Yoda, and a flying superhero silhouette that seems to be dragging the books off the shelf, cape first.

Setting It Up

Slide the base between two books so the upright wall takes the weight of the stack. Then bring the character close — its magnetic hand clamps onto the outer cover on its own. No screws, no assembly. An EVA foam pad under the base keeps the metal from scratching your shelf or desk.
