Build a Wooden Tourbillon You Can Watch Working

Explore a mechanical model with this 218-piece wooden tourbillon kit. Assemble the gears and rotating sphere, wind the spring and watch the mechanism turn through 360 degrees on two axes. The finished display makes the movement visible, bringing a hands-on model-building project to your desk.

Wind It and Watch

There is no battery anywhere in this build. A key-wound spring drives the whole mechanism, and one full wind keeps it running for roughly an hour. The sphere moves, pauses, and moves again while the gear train ticks along — the kind of motion you can sit and watch longer than you meant to.

The Build

The 218 precision-cut wooden components go together over an afternoon — plan on 2 to 4 hours. Difficulty sits at three stars, intermediate to advanced: you will need patience with the gear train, but the English manual takes it step by step. Hands busy, phone forgotten. That is half the point.

Good Match For

  • Puzzle builders ready for a mechanical challenge
  • Anyone fascinated by gears, escapements, and how clocks actually work
  • Gift-givers who want the present to be an experience, not just an object
  • Collectors of kinetic and mechanical art
  • People trying to spend an evening away from screens
